LiFi LED Internet. All you need to know.

So, LiFi (Life Fidelity) is this innovative new wireless communication technology that uses LEDs to provide us with internet service within our houses and offices. In times where everyone including Apple is getting hacked, WiFi that penetrates walls and doors are open gates to hackers to practice their skills or even the common joe who can take advantage of an open WiFi network,  LiFi comes in handy to make internet more secure, substantially faster and Innovative.

Professor Harald Hass from the University of  Edinburgh is said to have invented the LiFi technology to eliminate the use of radio spectrum to transfer and receive data. In his TEDGlobal talk in 2011 he discusses the advantages of LiFi over WiFi and it is pretty significant. In recent studies, scientists have found that pureLiFi can provide users with speeds upto 100 times the speed (2GB movie downloaded in mere seconds) of a WiFi signal but only when your device is exposed to said LED light directly.

LiFi can come in handy inside a movie theater where the enclosed area can be lit up with a few LEDs that can provide faster internet than a WiFi router would. Offices which could need and afford faster internet. One can soon imagine ATM rooms like places that house these pay-to-use LiFi LEDs where people can sit backs hunched using their cell phones and tablets all day, airplanes taking advantage of the technology providing us with the choice of WiFi or 10 times faster LiFi, and charging us a bomb for it inside the enclosed cylinder. One thing is for sure, this technology is coming and it will be here to stay. Get ready, with deeper pockets and terabytes of space in your devices to consume a ton of data within minutes.
